Our story

The Clarence is an award winning independent restaurant showcasing the very best of British and local Lancashire produce, alongside an outstanding food pub and bar. We even brew our own celebrated beer in our craft brewery at Britannia Mill.

“The sort of sophisticated ale house you might find in affluent Islington.”

Emma Mayoh, Lancashire Life

Established in 2014 by Lee and Lottie Hollinworth, we’ve strived to build a reputation grounded in delivering a heart warmingly different approach to food and drink, sourcing first class ingredients with great provenance and cooking them with flair. With a focus on seasonal produce and changing menus, you can keep returning and enjoy different dishes every time you visit us.

The building is spread over four floors, each of which have been lovingly restored to its original 1905 Victorian grandeur, making dining here a truly evocative experience.

In addition to exceptional food, we pride ourselves on employing people who love what they do, so you’ll get service with a good old fashioned, down to earth, North Manchester welcome

When you visit The Clarence, expect to discover a labour of love, a restoration project and a passionate food and drink destination rolled into one.
